+1 for Waraji for quality fish, but we usually go to Tasu because their rolls are more creative.
I can't argue with this , we do the same.
While it gets maligned by some, I'd add Mt Fuji in Brightleaf too. Sitting in the courtyard with a beer, sushi and some friends on a nice evening is hard to beat.
If you're closer to Durham, Shiki Sushi (in Homestead Market, at Fayetteville and 54) is a large, modern, high energy place always full of young professionals. The sushi is pretty good, but rolls tend to be heavier on sauces and tempura flakes or fillings than sushi purists like. If your friend is one of those purists, try Yamazushi (Woodcroft Shopping Center, at 54 and 751). They have excellent, traditional sushi in a refined (soime would say too quiet) atmosphere. Yamazushi is somewhat more expensive than Shiki, but the quality shows.
Sushi Thai in Cary is very good. But Yuri, also in Cary has moved into the lead as my favorite sushi spot in the area. Great service, reasonable prices, extensive menu... Oh, yeah, the food's really good too!
Another vote for Hayashi. It's the most beautifully decorated Japanese restaurant I've been in, with great food to boot. Just a few miles north of Raleigh, and it's worth the drive.
