Consumer Reports? This is the same organization that told people who had the iPhone 4 with the bad receptions to use duct tape on their phones to solve the problem.
The reliability reports are based on reader input, not CR's review. Granted, it uses only those who chose to respond, but it is certainly better than relying on the marketing literature from Viking, etc.
Apple - aren't they the company where the CEO replied "don't hold it that way" when first denying there were design problems with the iPhone? I think CR was one of the organizations that forced Jobs to drop the smug attitude and admit there was a problem.
You may want to consider DCS as well. Professional pieces, less well known than the above, and attractively priced as compared to others in the same category.
OP, since you are planning on wasting your money on "high end" appliances my suggestion does not apply to you.
To others who might use this thread as a reference in the future I absolutely love HHGregg. The place isn't for those who are either afraid of or just don't like the hassle of bargaining. I absolutely love the bargaining. I recently bought an OTR microwave normally priced $268 for $98!
Appliance World on Duraleigh Road in Raleigh, but I, like some others, think high-end appliances are generally more for show than for performance but to each his own.
Ferguson in Raleigh or Carrboro also is a good place to look. The Ferguson store in Raleigh is much larger and has a selection that goes from the Kitchen-Aid all the way up to Sub-Zero, Wolf, etc.
And yes, I would second the notion of using Consumer Reports to research manufacturers. They are a non-profit that takes no advertising and has test labs where they validate the performance of anonymously-purchased appliances, electronics and home goods. Crazy, I know, in our Yelp days where every Tom, Dick and Bozo is their own reviewer, but I like paying professionals to test out my expensive purchases.
