This is interesting. I may have to look into and antenna as well. Right now I have the TWC but the cheapest options $18/month. It use to be just $11 but has crept up in price over the past 6 years. This gets me the major networks, plus things like PBS, USA, TNT, TBS. Sounds like I could get almost all of that for free with just an antenna.
Just one question (not trying to hijack the thread) Can you still used TWC for cable internet service if you don't use them for cable TV?
We have TWC for internet only...so, yes, its possible.
We dropped cable about 1 yr ago and will never go back....get the @20 stations mentioned with just antennea(All major stations..crystal clear..plus PBS, METv(like tvLAND), FOX etc.)..some older tvs(10 years or older) will not pick up any stations at all. The only thing we pay for is Netflix...$7.99 a month. Worth it to us for the full seasons offered on our favorite tv shows(Cheers, the Office, Deadliest Catch etc.) and movies/not having to run out to Redbox.
That is also the main reason I haven't completely done away with cable. In order to get a good understanding of the national news you really need to watch several of the cable "news" channels as they all seem to be biased in one direction or another.
That's the only reason I haven't pulled the plug on cable, no CNN, MSNBC or other cable news that I watch regularly. With the election season coming up and being the political news junkie that I am, I don't know if I can do without those on a regular basis. Local news doesn't cut it for me.
I did buy a ROKU to see what was available and was really pleasantly surprised at the variety that was available through HULU, especially at only $8/mo. I also have to keep my landline for business but TWC doesn't know the reason why I don't want to give them up. I guess it's time to try the "I'm going to drop my cable, internet and TV" for cheaper options and see if TWC will offer up some cheaper options for me as they've done before. The prices are getting ridiculous especially considering how inexpensive the options are.
My problem with canceling TWC is that although I don't watch TV its
also my internet provider.
Are there cheap internet options.
I pay about $60 for basic cable and internet.
I use Mobile 4G Wireless Internet Access from CLEAR for internet. The 4G Home Basic plan has unlimited data usage, download speeds up to 1.5 mbps and upload speeds up to 500 kbps, for $35/month. I've never tested my connection speed to see how accurate those numbers are, but my son plays a lot of Xbox Live and has never complained about lag (which he actually used to do when we had TWC). We also watch Netflix through the Xbox with no lag.
They also have a faster plan with no preset download speed cap and upload speeds up to 1.0 mbps for $50. The Basic plan is sufficient for my needs though.
With both plans, you have to buy their equipment, which isn't too terribly expensive at $50 for a reconditioned modem. They actually waived the cost of the modem for me, without prompting, when I spoke with them on the phone when I signed up.
Go for the Leaf for sure....it's a locally owned business, and it's the highest rated and most popular product of it's kind on Amazon for good reason....it rocks...I've had mine for over a year
