I meant weather overall (more sunny days), but yes I know it has been incredibly hot (my parents live in Charlotte).

I can't understand the obsession with finding the best this, the best that, making things like they were "up north" (where I am from and have left TWICE), but whatever.

Or having to ask about every single little thing and seeing if there is something dangerous/better/higher ranked/gifted/slower/faster/stinkier or has a Viagra affect on the ego.

Like some others here, I am just thrilled to be here. I do not take for granted this area, while sprawled, is all trees from the air. That we are 2 hrs from the ocean and 2-3 from real mountains. That eastern NC BBQ awesome. That I can drive a few minutes from almost anywhere in Raleigh and be in the country. That one of the toughest decisions I have to make each weekend is which park or lake to go to w/ my killer pitbull. That we have a much better quality of life compared to where we were.

Friday, I am going to the Mt. Mitchell area for the weekend for the scenery, camping, and for some cooler weather. Rather than complain, I'm doing something; and further savoring what NC has to offer.

Mount Mitchell is fun to hike but it also is depressing. You will see the effects of pollution if you make it to the top.

Hey I am from the North and I always said since I moved here that the nicest people are from nc. By saying what you said about northerners then you will get a negative post back to you. No offense. Not everyone feels the same.

Especially walking around lakes and seeing the water surface so calm like glass and all the beautiful trees and colorful leaves reflecting in the water.

Breathtaking views of the mountains with the colors so sharp and jumping out, just littering the view with spectacular autumn colors.

Just one more reason I smile with knowing NC is my home,
Me either! I was just thinking that today. That's something I really missed living in FL so that will probably be my favorite time here.

I can relate with missing it,

But in my opinion NC really is spectacular for autumn. And all the hype is justified,

As for the cardinals, Liz, I think they are really enjoying NC too. This year, I have seen more of them hovering around my bird feeder than ever before! And I swear that they are BIGGER this year! Maybe the bugs ARE good for them! I stopped in Ace Hardware yesterday to get more bird seed and the guy behind me in line wanted to know what type of birds were attracted by the seed that I was using. I told him about the HUGE Cardinals and he actually bought some of the seed, himself! If only I had MORE time to sit and watch the birds...

Depressing is living in the Pacific Northwest and seeing the effects of clear-cutting. Makes you want to recycle everything and buy recycled to close the circle.

Oh wait, I already do that!

Depressing is also seeing the trees here in New England change color and begin to lose their leaves in mid-August but knowing it's not heat or drought that's doing it.
