I'm craving chili for dinner. Any good recommendations for a good bowl of chili?

There are so many different ways to make chilli that finding the "best" is not a simple question.
Meat or veggi? How processed, ground or shredded? What kind of broth, veggies, etc. Beans? And of course, how hot?

Now that I think on it, it's probably one of the most 'subjective' foods I like. There must be hundreds of ways to make it.

But to answer your question, I like Chilli from Chili's. Its thicker than soup, has great tasting meat, well spiced without you having to worry about chemical burns on your tongue. It comes with shredded cheddar & diced onions. And you can get a bowl, or if you also want a burger or salad you can get just a cup.

I've got good chili at my house

Seriously though, I've always enjoyed the chili at Mitch's Tavern.

Agreed - I miss their Cincinnati chili & free sampler plate! As for the OP's question - In Raleigh I loved Cloo's Coney Island in Mission Valley (corner of Avent Ferry & Western). It's a Detroit style chili dog place and make a good loose chili that got me through my first homesick months after I moved to Raleigh. Highly recommend their coney dogs - put Snoopy's to shame (except for their 0.99$ Tuesdays)

Me too! I loved their chili when I lived in VA, and was happy to see one in Raleigh. I guess I should make sure to hit them up the next time I'm in DC.

Wendy's chili works for me in a pinch, although I liked their old recipe a little better.

Chili is something I prefer to make at home. When the weather starts to get chilly (heh), I love to have a pot simmering on the stove for several hours.

Coming from Texas, I never put beans in my chili. I love a big bowl of Texas Red, preferably with Fritos and melted cheddar. (Also known as a Frito pie.) Surprisingly enough, my favorite recipe is actually Martha Stewart's. I've made this several times, and follow the recipe exactly - except I use canola oil instead of safflower oil.

Wendy's.

I get a large fry and a small chili and put it on top with some shredded cheese. Man that's the best midnight meal every. lol
