So, I usually go the speed limit, but I decided years ago that no place was so important to be that I had to speed to get there. So, with that said, when people ride on my bumper, I stay steady. I already said, I'm a mom am not concerned about where you have to be-it just can't be that important.
If you are already in the junction when the lights turn red you are expected to complete the maneuver. You shouldn't get a ticket for that

Steady is perfect. Just don't speed up when we pass you on the right.

I never do, but that would be on the left.

I was so annoyed with governments using stop light cameras as a revenue stream that I got a radar detector that has a built-in GPS and an updateable internal listings of all the stop light cameras.

So it alerts me prior to the intersections and I know to be extra careful. Super for the piece of mind!

Does it calculate speed some how. Was curious.
Reviving an old thread because I have always been curious about this too. Now that I have my first red light camera bill in hand, I know how to works. They sent a civil violation (not a moving violation) which included three pictures which apparently showed me running the light. I could not tell if it was even my car in the intersection from the pictures. The still images do have speed listed so it says I was going 23MPH when the light turned red. That seems high since I was making a left turn but I suppose it is possible. The bill did include a hyperlink so I can look at video of me running it online and from there I can see I clearly crossed the stop bar after the light turned red. The car next to me slammed on their brakes and managed to stop in time. The fine is $50 which goes to public schools and the bill says that it is not sent to the DMV for points or to my insurance company.
This was from Knightdale at Widewaters Parkway if you are curious.

It's a moneymaking scheme.

Although I hate the idea of red light cameras, I have seen many, many people get caught by the one at the intersection to my neighborhood. And these folks can't claim they are unfairly are getting the tickets. I watch them blow past the red light like they're in a NASCAR race. God forbid one day there's some kids getting ready to cross in the crosswalk to get to the shopping center and one of these jerks mows through them.
