I'm relieved it wasn't vandalism and appears to have been a disease issue. I guess I've never seen that kind of approach to tree replacement. Beavers would have been proud!
I also didn't realize that Highcroft was going to connect in that area, so I'm glad the thread brought that to light.
Looks like they replaced them w/ Crape myrtles that are half dried up anyway. Luckily it's raining right now so they may have a chance. With no access to irrigation other than natural irrigation, the previous maples had dead tops...but they were recovering and should have looked ok in a few years.
