Are there any names or places that a newcomer would mispronouced? Being a Sci-Fi reader, I thought the city name Zebulon sounded like a Flash Gordon serial "Flash Gordon and the Evil Empire of Zebulon", but I was told I was saying it wrong. Should be saying "Zeb-u-len", not "Zeb-u-lawn".

Well, we live in Knightdale and everyone around here says "zeb-u-lon", even people we know who are from the area.
Who knows ? Just what I have heard.

I live in Zebulon, and it's pronounced zeb-you-len. Emphasis on zeb.

It's named for Zebulon Vance.

lol.. everytime we see or hear anyone mention it, me and my hubby always look at each other and say in our best alien voicees "I come to you from the planet Zebulon" We started doing that after the first time we saw the sign driving out the outer banks.

Sorry Zebulonites! It could be worse... you could live in Lizard Lick!

Well, dang, I've always said Zeb'-yoo-lon.

But I know someone born and raised in Mebane who calls it Muh-bain'.

Betcha can't say "Oine" (near the VA border). That one's always cracked me up.

Oh, here's another that I said wrong for ages... Forsyth County. Hint: it's not anything like the flowering bushes.

This is so strange. I am sure I've heard newscasters pronounce it "Zeb-yew-lawn". Now I don't know what to think!
