Where would the best choice of public schools be in these areas (FQ, Clayton, etc.) ?

Not sure what grade levels you're looking for, but we've been very happy with Ballentine Elementary in FV.

I agree with the above poster - Ballentine would be my choice for an elementary school. Herbert Akins seems good too. I think both these schools currently feed into Holly Grove Middle which is in Holly Springs, and I am under the impression it is quite good also. Fuquay HS seems a step below its neighbors in Holly Springs and Apex, going by test scores at least.

Of course everything is in flux right now with the new assignment plan on the brink of being released. It seems that everyone will get the choice of two high schools - so theoretically you could live in Fuquay and go to Holly Springs HS (assuming that will be the second choice??).

I hope you are aware that you're talking about two different school districts, since school districts are at the county level. F-V is in Wake county and Clayton is in Johnston county. Wake has had a lot of "issues" with the school board and reassignments in the past few years (do a web search on "wake county school assignments" or similar for the backstory there) while Johnston (Clayton) is, for the moment, more stable in that particular regard.

As is mentioned above, it would help if you would mention what level of schools you're interested in (elementary, middle, or high).

The best between the two would be the northeast part of Fuquay, where they attend the Westlake schools in Cary.
