My sister (age 72) and her husband (age 78) would like to spend some time in Durham or Chapel Hill this winter to escape the cold in Minnesota. My sister is a retired psycologist and her husband, an engineer. Can anyone steer me to an agency which could furnish locations, etc, of potential sublets or housesitting opportunities

Hi,
I'm not sure what their price range is, but one option is Vacation rentals, private rooms, sublets by the night - Accommodations on Airbnb - a site where people post their homes/apartments/condos for rent either by the night, the week, month, etc. I took a quick glance at the places available in Raleigh and they seem to run between $800 and close to $2K per month.

Another option is Craigslist, of course. Though it may take a little bit more work on your part to make sure everything is legit, you can still find places and it's where a lot of people post sublet needed info, etc. Use your common sense and you'll be fine!

Good luck!

If they would be interested in an apartment, I know both The Forest and Alexan in Durham offer furnished short-term leases. It's usually patients at Duke or UNC that rent them but there's other people that rent them as well.

there's also sabbaticalhomes.com

there are a few homes available now, but they're for 6 months - 1 year.
