I've never heard of "the south" giving more tickets than any other area. I can't help it if I'm sheltered and just follow rules and laws and therefore don't have run in's with cops and such. I'll try to be more rebellious!!! Any suggestions? Now, be nice.

I think, while Raleigh is no where near as bad as Cary with the number of speed traps, my issue with Raleigh is WHERE they choose to enforce the speed limits.
For instance, they seem all gung-ho about catching speeders on long, flat, straight stetches of road where it's very difficult to stay below the limit. Areas like the stretch of Capital Blvd between Wade and Atlantic. Or the stretch of McDowell/Dawson between Western Blvd and the Saunders Street split. There aren't any homes or schools on those roads, and very few business, so if people speed a little, what's the harm??
YET...on streets that REALLY need some speed enforcement, like Wade Ave, Hillsborough Street, Glenwood Ave, Oberlin Road, Peace Street, Wake Forest Road, and a few others....the police are no where to be seen and people are literally FLYING down those roads.
So, if any Raleigh police reading out there....please reconsider which streets you patrol. The ones that need it are not being done.

My problem with the Cary police is that it feels like harassment. You can't go anywhere without seeing cops swarming everywhere. Considering how little crime there is in Cary, this seems excessive.
|
Harassment because there are police everywhere? Guilty conscience maybe? There is probably little crime in Cary BECAUSE of the amount of police. You should consider yourself lucky that you have such a police force.

ALL people sooner or later might accidentally go faster than the posted speed because they were distracted or didn't realize it had changed, etc.
|
That made me laugh. Pay attention to what you are doing. If you cant drive without getting distracted, dont drive. I dont need to end up in a ditch because youre cell phone call or radio is more important than paying attention. That is a terrible excuse.

Exactly, my point too, snakecotc! What is that cliche? Stupidity is not an excuse for breaking the law???
There I go again...cracking myself up!!!

Sorry if that post came off as abrasive, but im tired of people not taking responsibility. Its the officer's fault that you get pulled over, right?

I used to think there was no big deal with speeding, until I was in an accident where we were hit while driving 55 by someone going 85. Please drive the speed limit...it's there for a reason. In my opinion, there aren't enough cops giving speeding tickets. Driving the speed limit isn't such a burden when you think about paying for a ticket, having your insurance go up and possibly causing a really bad accident. Please re-think your opinion on "actually having to drive the speed limit". Please...
Thanks.

I have been shocked by the amount of traffic accidents I see on Capital almost every day. Up by me people go REALLY fast & I guess it is ineveitable that there would be accidents.

I disagree. 55 is way to slow. If it was on a two lane road, I understand. But people going 55 on the highway should get a ticket!
85 is way to fast though. 75 is perfect for highways.

It's funny here in our state, if you are going 75mph, your getting the finger. To avoid the finger, you need to be doing 85mph+. When we went to NC/SC I have to say 75mph seemed a little fast. Not sure why. 65-70 was a better speed IMHO.
