I'm refurbing a rental house in preparation for a sale and the carpet is one of the big hitters where I can potentially save a lot of money. The house is large, around 2500 square feet, so I'm not anticipating a small bill, and even 10-15% is a big number to save.

Has anyone seen any great deals or offers the past few weeks? I have a lot of things to line up and am hoping to find a great deal on carpet. The house is in North Raleigh if that matters, but I think most carpet places will not have any problems no matter where in the Triangle it is.

Thanks!

From my recent experience an independent installer is cheapest. I got an estimate from Home depot and lowes. They nickle and dime you to death. Everything is extra. Home depot even charges for the estimate. Costco gave me an estimate for a very nice carpet but they were expensive. There are installers that all they do are rental properties. You'll see them driving around on the way to a job with a roll of carpet hanging out of the van. They buy what you want wholesale and install it in hours. The guy who did mine is out of Wendell. Not a rental but my house in Wake Forest.

Haven't seen any deals but I agree avoid Home Depot. Sometimes there are deals when you get a money mailer, etc.

We used JD Floor Store last year and were pretty happy with the price - entire 2nd and 3rd floor plus 2 flights of stairs. No pressure sales at all either.
