It closed a couple years ago but reopened this past year. I don't know how well they are doing though. I wish them well! I have many many fond memories of that place.

Most of my late night meals came from Ihop or Waffle House on Hillsborough St. I only went to the Longbranch a couple of times. It really wasn't my kinda place.

What I loved about the Longbranch in the old days was it was a "country music" nightclub only. It catered to the country music crowd, which was huge with the release of Urban Cowboy, as the entire country was caught up in that fad for a few years.
I was one of those Urban Cowboys so I lived that life to a certain extent. I feel funny admitting that today but hey everyone had to do something, right?

In its later days, as it continued to expand, it was 1/2 country and 1/2 something else, that 1/2 which I don't think was really defined. At least not when I stopped going once I got married. In 1982 when they opened up the other side with the large lighted dance floor it was used for top 40 music. I liked it then as I could go between dancing the 2 step on the country music side, or walk through the arcade area and get on the lighted dance floor and do the Hustle or whatever other dance I liked, or my partner knew at the time.
I could go upstairs, get a drink, play pool, watch the widescreen television, or stand at the edge overlooking the dance floor and people watch. It had a lot of differing options for people and it was usually packed. I don't know what happened to it to close, but from what I understand its nowhere near now what it was in its heyday.
