There is a neat store in Brightleaf Square ( Durham ) called Morgan Imports...lots of offerings from toys to furniture.
Also, "One World", similar to the one mentioned earlier that sells goods made from poor villages worldwide, is located in a building at the corner of Ninth and Greene. ( also Durham)
We really enjoy shopping at museum shops, too. Not quite in the parameters you wanted, but unique gifts can often be found there.

With a name like "Morgan Imports" I'm going out on a limb and guessing 99% of their goods have "Made in China" stamped or stickered on them, the other 1% from Vietnam, Korea, or Taiwan.

I buy my local stuff for Xmas in the Sears tool department. Made in Gastonia, NC outside Charlotte.
