The first eagle I've seen at Falls Lake in a number of years. See lots of osprey that look like an eagle from a distance but this was a beautiful eagle this morning (it was in Horse Creek).

How cool! I wonder if that is the same eagle I saw near Jordan Lake the other day. I was so surprised to see one!

Probably not the same eagle. Jordan Lake has a large nesting population of bald eagles. Last time I asked a park ranger, Falls Lake only had one pair.

Harris Lake has eagles also. I've seen them down there. And although I live walking distance to Falls Lake, I don't see any around here.

Anybody familiar with that large nest at Barton's Creek? It's over in those flooded trees on the west side of Six Forks Rd. I've been told it's an eagle, and an osprey....but have never gotten close enough to see it for myself.

There are many osprey/eagle nest on Falls, some on structures put there by the Army Corp but others build in the top of trees. The lake is full of osprey in these nests during the late spring/summer but I have never seen a nesting eagle in any. I fish Falls several days a week year round and the one I spotted yesterday was the first I had seen in many years. Hope it sticks around. I was told the same osprey come back to the same nest every year, not sure if that is true but would interested to find out for sure.

The nest over by Barton's Creek is an osprey. I've kayaked over in that area and it's so beautiful to see it flying to & from the nest.

Yes, I lived in FL. for 20 years and until charlie we had a few pairs in the neighborhood, ( SW fl), come back each year. In fact the local Cape Coral paper would let all know when each pair came back to nest, LOL. They were respected celebrety in the hood, LOL> My son still lives there and it was just this past season that they all returned again. Hurricaine Charlie knocked over a couple of the trees, and changed the landscape so much we think they moved out for a while.
