I did not think this was a joke posting forum. Fines should be reasonable so you don'tModerator cut: language people off. Make it $500. Fine. Happy?
It's better to be Moderator cut: language off than Moderator cut: language on right? How about a novel thought? Park where it is legal and avoid the $50 or $500 fine? I say make it $5000. STOP DOING IT, IT'S THAT SIMPLE!

Reason: Please use appropriate language, or else let the language filters do their job.
Here's a tip: Don't park illegally downtown and you will never a get a ticket. I've managed to avoid parking tickets in downtown Raleigh for over 6 years and I park down there almost every day.
Unfortunately, this isn't always the case. I've received a parking ticket for parking in an area that only allows cars to park from 6pm-6am. And, although I parked in the spot at 6:15pm, it didn't stop the officer from leaving a ticket on my window.

And since the time is stamped on the ticket, you could have very easily had it thrown out if that was the case.
Parking fees and ticket fines used to be reasonable. Not any longer.
How is a $30 fine for parking in a restricted area unreasonable? It's supposed to be a deterrent, and IMO it should be higher. Fines for meter violations are even lower.
If it's worth it to people to park illegally and take a chance on a ticket, the fines aren't high enough.

I do believe the whole purpose is to **** people off. I mean if you walk away saying "well that was pretty reasonable", then you'd probably be inclined to do it again.
If you walk away ****ed off, well then next time you'll remember to follow the rules like the rest of civilized society.
Take speeding. If the fine were "reasonable", say $10, then you could rationalize "I can sleep in an extra half hour and do 85 the whole way to work". That is worth $10. But when you look at the court costs plus the increase in insurance, you think twice.
Some pretty harsh views here. I guess no one has ever get caught at a downtown lunch where the service turned out to be slower than expected, or at an appointment that took longer than planned.
Not everyone gets a ticket because they flagrantly chose to ignore the parking rules.

In my case, the time was hand-written for 5:55pm (yes, 20 minutes earlier than when I parked the car). It has been a few years since I received the ticket, so maybe tickets are now automatically time-stamped.
