We are planning a trip to Raleigh soon and want advice on the private schools in the closest proximity to Black Horse Run. We have one in elementary and one going into middle school. Also would like to get an idea the average cost of the private schools there?

Thanks!

For the most part, private schools are very expensive here compared to other areas. 15k to 20k a year for elementary is not unheard of, though some religious schools are cheaper (and some aren’t).

Ravencroft is probably the closest to you, very good school, very expensive and I believe they currently have a waiting list.

There are a few parochial schools that are in North Raleigh. The Franciscan School is probably the closest followed by St. Raphael. They have grades K-8 and run around $5500 if your Catholic and a member of the parish. Other religious schools are North Raleigh Christian Academy, Trinity Academy, St. Timothy's, Friendship Baptist, Nuese Baptist - not sure how much they run.

We looked at houses in Black Horse Run and while we loved the set up we were really concerned about everything we heard about the public schools (from many different people)...also seemed a drive to anything...that said, we LOVED the neighborhood...also seemed to have a lot of houses for sale, which we wondered why...interested in your assessment of the neighborhood...

The Montessori School of Raleigh is another option in North Raleigh for elementary and middle school.

Hmm, I haven't heard anything but good things about the elementary school (Bailywick) and high school (Leesville). The middle school (West Millbrook) does get mixed reviews, , but you can always have your child assigned to Durant Middle School as the year-round alternative.

Ravenscroft is pricey but quite nice, but I think 15k to 20k a year is more in line with the middle and upper schools...I think elementary is a good bit below that. I believe they require on campus interviews.

Ravenscroft is 10,000 to 17,000 and then a bit more in fees and if you want transportation. Its a GREAT school but as far as I know it's waiting list only at this point. You might have some luck if you are applying for upperschool but I know that lower school is full with waiting list.

It looks like everyone has given you the suggestions that I would. There are several good private schools and they are all very different. You just kind of have to check them out and see what's the best fit for your family.

Good Luck
