Looks like the N&O realized this was old news from September and pulled their article.

Just for completeness, here is another thread from September when we discussed the rankings.

For your amusement, I will say this:

Today, on the Ellen show, there was a family with six kids. They moved from the Bronx to Charlotte, NC, for a better life. The mother has no job. The father has no job.

Ellen gave them $30K worth of goods from her "Twelve Days of Christmas" deal.

I wonder if the couple read that NC was one of the best places to live?

Unfortunately, there are many sheep like them that don't do any homework, and simply "shotgun" a map and believe everything they read and none of what they see.

The thing about these "Best Of" articles winding up here on this particular forum is that we have NO shortage of people who wanna move here.

And the locals (natives and long-term transplants) know this is a great place to live already.

The recycled cliche`that suggests the world is filled with people who read an article, quit their job, load the family in the car and move to the Triangle with no job or money expecting riches and prosperity has been battered to death on this forum.

Anecdotal stories about a friend of a friend or a neighbor's cousin or someone at work who did it is not representative of the vast majority of people who have moved here.

Most people who move here have jobs and many already know people who live here or have lived here.

It's a free country and people can move where the want and for whatever reason they want.

People who possess a sense of adventure and are willing to take some risk are far more interesting than those whose lives are filled with fear and anxiety.

^^ Best post in this ... thread well said! Of course I am sure certain posters who think they are "informing" others will continue to ignore your valid points. Some people find misery everywhere they look - it's simply their own reflection.
