We plan to downsize from our current home in about 4 years. We are looking in North Raleigh for a neighboorhood (new or old) that would be in walking distance to grocery stores, coffee shop, etc. First thoughts that come to mind are either near North Hills or Stonehenge. We would also consider condo, etc.

We are currently on Falls Lake in a 3000+, 2 acres, thus high maintenance. So, we are looking for both a smaller lot and house.

Any ideas???

Downtown condos should easily fit your needs, and there is a building boom that should provide some nice resales in 4 years.
You should seriously consider Cameron Village area also. E-Z living. Shops, dining options, and grocery choices and an easy walk from surrounding homes and condos.

I'll second the Cameron Village area. There are interesting single family homes in neighborhoods to the North and South of it and condos going up toward downtown on the East side. The center has almost everything one needs for daily living including 2 groceries, a drug store, restaurants, banks, specialty stores and even a nice big public library. downtown is 1 mile away and NC State is merely a few blocks. If you desire a run to bigger shopping excursions, both Crabtree and North Hills are within 3 miles of this area.
