Default Advice wanted on finding relocating renters for downtown Raleigh

Hi all,

A year ago we had a house built in the Village at Pilot Mill, a downtown Raleigh development of single family homes. It's a great house in a great neighbourhood - a taste of real city living - and we wanted to move near to where our children's grandparents live. Unfortunately, circumstances have changed and now we're stuck in Oxford, England, a long way away.

We're still really keen to move over in the future and managed to rent the house out for a year, but now need to find new tenants to cover the mortgage payments. Or if that's not going to be possible, we'll have to sell it, which we really don't want to do!

The rental system seems pretty odd in Raleigh - no single clear place to advertise a property, and few properties on the MLS. I could imagine the house would be perfect for a family relocating to Raleigh (possibly renting for a year while they check out neighbourhoods) but have no idea how to tap into that market.

Any thoughts on how I might be able to access potential relocators, or other suggestions for marketing the house?

I've put up a website (For sale or rent: Beautiful 1-year old home: 1117 N. Blount Street, Village at Pilot Mill, Downtown Raleigh) but how to get people to look at it???

Many thanks for any advice,
Darian

Put a listing on CraigsList.
craigslist: raleigh / durham / CH classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events
I know some people who have rented out their homes & they've had a lot of luck finding tennants through that site.

PS: It is against the Terms of Service for this website to advertise on these forums. So don't be surprised if a moderator removes references to your property from your posts.

Hi MrsSteel,

Many thanks for your suggestion - I've put something up there.

And I just noticed the Terms and Conditions about advertising, so I guess my post may well disappear! In the Terms, there's mention of free classified ads, but no link to it. Any idea what that is?

Many thanks,
Darian

Stibbed, I think the Terms of Service is refering to this section of the forums:
http://www.city-data.com/forum/classified-ads/ .
I don't know how much luck people have with it, though. It's rather hidden at the bottom of the main page for the forum ( http://www.city-data.com/forum/ ).

The good news is that CraigsList is very popular in the US. I have many friends who have used CraigsList to find rental homes/apartments. We also know a family who decided to rent out their home here in the Triangle; they found their tennants in about one week thanks to CraigsList. So there is hope!

Good luck!
