HOA board is not willing to do anything about it except forwarding recommendations from DPD. This is becoming so ridiculous that we are thinking about moving to CH. Don't like that idea but it appears it is just a matter of a few years if not months till our turn arrives.
I appreciate if you could share your own experiences in Durham or CH and if your subdivision in the past has taken any measure to improve safety and if it did work or not.
Break ins can happen anywhere and at anytime. Do you think break-ins do not happen in Chapel Hill too ... Seriously? The first thing we do is to underestimate the average criminal and that is a mistake. When some of us think of a crook we think of someone dressed like a hoodlum and look and speak a certain way - Big mistake. Ted Bundy was a well dressed and charming gentleman who was actually a monster. Point I am getting at is that not all crooks are stupid.

I am willing to bet that the folks doing the break-ins are people that are known to the folks being robbed, someone that either worked in your home as a contractor/repair person/landscaper, an acquaintance of someone that visited your home and knows when you are home and when you are not. Break-ins can even happen by someone that actually live in your neighborhood. I live in a very nice neighborhood in the Southpoint area as well and I notice that quite a number of my neighbors have cleaning services that does their house cleaning on a consistent basis and all types of foot traffic that go in and out of their place. My wife and I clean our own house so that is one less group to be suspicious of . I am from New York and hardly trust anyone ... heck I have certain relatives that I would not trust.

There is a guy in my neighborhood that occasionally host big networking parties sometimes for charities with people flooding his house ... some that are not even known to him but was brought by others to these parties. I told my wife that it would have been a matter of time before he got robbed and do you know what? .... his house was broken into last year and some of his expensive music equipment was stolen. Whomever broke in knew precisely where he kept his gear and went for it, more likely because they are familiar with the layout, knew that he travels a lot and was seldom home, and that his house was backed up against the woods for a quick getaway. The minute the alarm goes off any serious crook knows that he/she has a very limited window before the cops are dispatched once no one can be reached on the phone by the alarm company ... and provided the home is being monitored.

Were the homes in your neighborhood wired? I am not a betting man but I would certainly take bets that whomever robbed the homes knew a thing or two about the house and its occupants before robbing it. I am a hawk in my neighborhood ... I observe who drives on my street and with what frequency and to whom they visit. I observe who jogs or walk around the street during their so-called daily exercise routine so that I will be able to spot something out of the ordinary. I do not expect anyone breaking into my house anytime soon, and if they were even planning on it they better pray I am not home when they are trying to do so because I will have a very nice surprize for them waiting on the inside

I guess they have more important stuff to take care of or are just incompetent.
If I ever catch a guy flashing my kids, it will be his very last time ... count on it! Creep!
