Question Getting to and around N.C.-

(Admin.--please don't move.) I am considering getting a GPS. I am looking at one called TomTom One, which is the least expensive model that co. makes. I would be interested to hear from anyone who uses one of these systems, not necessarily TomTom. Being an older person and driving by myself, I should think it would be a tremendous help in getting around N.C. The easier to use, the better. Tell me your opinions/suggestions. Sure will appreciate it.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 350. It is very useful but there are also a lot of streets and businesses that the Garmin is no aware of. Can be very frustrating. I think the area is changing so quickly. The GPS's just can't keep up. But I would recommend having a GPS no matter how unreliable they can be as when you are lost they can get you home!

I have a TomTom One, it is very user friendly and has a small footprint but it does calculate directions more slowly than the TomTom GO because it has a slower processor. It also doesn't seem to have as comprehensive a listing of points of interest (e.g., stores are not in there like Lowes or Wal Mart but it has gas stations, restaurant, etc.). Another thing with the ONE is that it does not direct you to the exact location of your destination but only gets you within half a block or so. It doesn't know the EXACT spot, whle the TomTom GO does because it has a much larger hard drive to store the extra data on. These are minor inconveniences. Neither the GO or the ONE allows you to input multiple destinations and have it automatically route you along the shortest/quickest route that reaches all the destinations - you can enter multiple destinations but you have to manually order them yourself.

I have the same model and love it. A new map version was just released last month, that should help with finding some of the newer streets.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments. Especially the one about "when you are lost they can get you home" Love it! I will be doing my research and hope I make an informed choice.

Anyone else have any comments? Appreciate all the info I can get.
