I'm a part-time realtor in NY. I know that NC isn't recriprocal with NY and that I'd have to take the test, etc. to work in NC. I'm wondering if it would even be worth it for me to consider this as an option (even a part-time) when we relocate.

Thanks!

I'm no expert (but that has never stopped me from posting), but I would think that there were a lot more real estate agents a few years ago when the housing market was strong, such that there is probably a glut today (or a lot forced from the market for lack of business).

Being a realator is what you make of it. I have known NEW agents that hired into an office and did GREAT..I have usually known it to be just the opposite. If you are a go-getter, you might do all right. My niece just switched brokers and is doing as well or better after the change.

Thanks so much for the replies! I just emailed the Real Estate Commisison to find out what I had to do for NC. I feared posting and having a dozen people tell me that there were already 1,000,000 realtors and nothing was selling! LOL

Thanks again!

There ARE a lot of agents. But, if you want to hustle, there is certainly room for you.

Be a good one an agent who KNOWS how to sell a house and you will be fine. SOOO many have no idea how to sell a home. Down here a few years ago when the economy was booming it was like the old Honda Ad on TV that they SOLD THEMSELVES. Now you better know how!

It's definitely not a part-timers market though.

I think one day I'd like to retire to somewhere in the Caribbean, and just sell multi-million dollar homes. Then i could work part-time, during the high-tourist season.

Being locally connected and knowledgeable seems like an important trait in a real estate agent.

Let me put it this way: a friend of mine was a long-time realtor until the bottom fell out of the market. He's now working at Home Depot.

You do have to be a hustler for sure. I am no longer with a large company anymore and do not think that matters at all. It is all about you and what you make of it. I do pretty well for myself and love being an agent in this area. My love of the job is working with out of state people the most. Love teaching them about the area, and learning more and more myself too. Good Luck with everything.
