In all seriousness I think most people agree. And I'm from NY and people up there also run out for French Toast Fixin's. Human nature. Especially if you have small kids you don't want to be stuck without stuff they like. But the amount of stuff that people buy can get a little silly.
But if you really look in those shopping carts you'll see beer, wine, nachos, cookies.....
No, Twingles, they aren't buying that for the snow, that's just what Americans buy on a regular basis.
And seriously...we may not have salt trucks or plows, but I'm not thinking I need either to drive in one inch of snow.
I've been keeping an eye on the daily high and low temps for Raleigh and comparing it to our Michigan temps. Up until the last couple of weeks, we have had a relatively mild winter with highs ranging from mid-30's to high 40's and even a few 50's with very little snow. Now we are having more typical 20's and 30's with several inches of snow. I see that Raleigh has had highs ranging from mostly mid-40's to mid-60's. Is that typical for December and January? Is Raleigh also having a milder winter than normal?
I've lived here for almost 50 years and I don't think there is a typical winter. you may just as well see a 75 degree day in January as snow. one thing I would say is that snow is more like ice, in part because I think when it hits the warm ground it melts first, then refreezes. and that's if we don't get ice to begin with which is about 50% of winter weather events.
So in less than a week it has been below freezing, almost 80, it has snowed, rained, been overcast and sunny. What's the over/under on what's next?
Sounds good to me! Considering that the average high for Raleigh for the first 23 days of February has been 57 while in Michigan the average has been 38, I'll take volatility over consistency if it means warmer, sunnier weather overall.
