I was at Costco on wake forest rd. and was chatting to one of the employees. He said it takes 9 months for Costco to actually develop the property once they get it. I really hope they get approval for the Mcgregor spot...would be quite handy!

9 months from date of approval!
I say excellent news - I really enjoy shopping there - the treasure hunting a previous poster mentioned is a lot of fun.
My husband will not be thrilled, especially when the Amex bill comes in.

Given the nature of this site, with existing businesses that need to move and then demo, it would take longer probably, if it goes forward.

Anyone know the current rumor on this? I know about 2 months ago I got an email from Kool Kids who was a tenant there stating that Costco bought the place and gave them a week to move out before beginning demo, so I assumed it was a done deal. But we went over there this weekend and almost all the shops in that section are gone, but now they have realtor signs in the windows!! Did Costco really kick them out, and then the deal fell through?! If so that is really crappy of them. We ate at Cinellis and I asked the waiter what was going on and he said he thought that either the deal fell through, or that Costco was only going to use part of the parking lot, which wouldn't make any sense because it's not big enough for the store and parking.

I know nothing bat it, but the property is still owned by the same company that has owned it the last decade. So, while the potential of an impending deal with Costco or someone else may have caused them to not renew leases, i don't think it would be quite fair to say Costco kicked anyone out. Plus, unless they had some weird leases, you just can't terminate someone on a few weeks notice, unless they bought them out of the lease or something.

I heard Costco told Cary to shove it with the demands on road improvements they were going to require and they bailed on the idea.

Good for all involved. Not a very good street location for a big box that would generate the traffic that Costco will.

I don't know, everybody is so afraid of how much traffic Costco would create, but the one in Raleigh isn't all that bad. It's not like there is a steady stream of traffic going in and out at all times. But I do think it was dumb for Costco to tear down a viable merchant area to build their store.

Well, if what I heard is true, it's going to be worse than Costco...another car dealer apparently outbid them for the location.
