I've been to Chapel Hill before and know have a downtown that's fun. Thinking of staying someone different around the Duke area. Do they have some good night spots?

The Ninth Street area is the "funky, cool" part of Durham and is very near Duke, especially East Campus. The American Tobacco Complex downtown is not an unreasonable distance from East Campus, though might be a long walk at night.

I had some wings last night at a sports bar called Satisfactions in Brightleaf and the whole area around it was jumping with people at cafe's and restaurants.

I think you got most of the relevant info; 9th St, Brightlief, and the DAP/DPAC areas are the best. There are a couple of great places around the Southpoint area, like Shiki Sushi and City Beverage.

Rep to all. Bright leaf square seems to be exactly what I'm looking for!
