Maybe if enough people report it to WRAL or call 911 we'll figure it out.
It would probably be better to get the Acoustical Society of America involved. They do have a NC chapter located somewhere in the area. Maybe they could do some forensic investigation like that seen in this video of the Wisconsin booms.
I believe some people have even suggested that these unexplained sounds are some form of government test- maybe for crowd control. Well, for anyone who isn't aware how effectively sound can be weaponized or used for controlling people's behavior I suggest watching this video.
Just heard another one. Shook my house at the junction of 98 and Creedmoor road. Bang on 10pm. Saturday night. A search on this forum reveals that many parts of the US are experiencing similar unexplained phenomena.
I missed that one last night, but I was watching TV...and probably had it drowned out. But they do seem to happen most times, between 6-10pm. I haven't heard many lately.
Last night in North Raleigh I heard three or four loud booms after 12:30 a.m. and every few minutes apart. It wasn't a car, transformer blowing up or anything I can imagine other than maybe a dynamite explosion at the qauarry over near the airport (I think that's where it is).
But it seems to me the sound was much closer than any explosion at the quarry would have sounded like. If I heard it that loudly where we live, then the people living closer to the quarry would be really upset and probably would be in the news more because of neighborhood complaints.

toodie
That is the time I heard them. I was inside with windows down & watching a movie , so they were loud enough to hear over that.
What in the world are these booms ??
Maybe road construction noise traveling ??
It's so weird, I had been following this thread from Texas and now that we're back in Raleigh I heard them last night! I'm near the PNC center. It sounded to me like a transformer or a car backfiring. But I'm probably farther away than others who have posted.
In case people were hearing booms in North Raleigh tonight, it's just a concert near Crabtree Valley Mall. These are not the booms I'm sure people have been hearing and reporting. Just an FYI.
At 2am I just heard about 8 very loud booms in a row! Shortly thereafter I heard sirens. This is freaking me out! I also hear 2 loud booms in a row earlier this week. I live just off of Lynn Rd near Target.
