WOW! I heard that too. It woke me up because I thought there was a shot out in front of my apartment complex. Yea it happened right at 2:12 a.m. this morning. I looked on the news and didn't see anything. I thought I was just dreaming it. I live by lake lynn for the record.

Heard it again, twice, a few nights ago. First one was around 8pm, the 2nd about half an hour later. Heard them from inside the house...wife and I were watching TV, and looked at each other when we heard it. She asked "did you ever figure out what that was?".

Not to be confused with the State fair fireworks which start around 9:30-9:45 each night. Those sound like fireworks...and even though it's 15 miles away, it's easy to tell what they are....we can hear them pretty well.

Has anyone tried to contact anyone like the weather service or a geologist on this?

The quarry off Capital that is tucked in behind Bedford & Falls River is doing a blast around 4 pm today (Tuesday) I just talked to them to see if they may be causing the noise we are hearing.

They did say that they do not blast as late as 8 pm though, so it seems that the booms must be something else.

Anyway, I thought it would be fun for everyone in the area that sees this post to open a window and see if they hear anything around 4 today.

If it's anywhere nearly as loud as the ones in the evening, I won't need to open a window. I can sometimes hear those over the TV, with doors and windows closed!

Like I mentioned earlier, I'm 14.7 miles from the fairgrounds, and I can clearly hear the fireworks every night around 9:30.

They've started again.

Heard one last night at 10:50. Which is WAY too late for anyone to be making such man made noises. If that's what they are. This is the 2nd time we've heard it in the last 3 nights.

Not to be confused with gunfire, which we've also heard a lot of. But a lot of deer hunting happens out here, and close by. It sound VERY different.
