I was looking at some homes in Holly Springs and mentioned it to my husband. He looked at me like I had three heads and said the commute, because of the horrific traffic, from Holly Springs would be horrendous. I know I have seen it get pretty backed up as you pass through Apex on 55--we live in W. Cary now.
He works in N. Raleigh (near Wake Forest Rd) but his office may be relocating to RTP in the next year or so.
So, I'd like to hear from some people living in Holly Springs--do you love living out there? How are the schools?
Love living here, schools are all new and no problems from my perspective (2 recent grads and one in middle). Good chance of not having your kids moved to alternate schools as well. I do not really have to deal with rush hour so much help there, but getting to Raleigh near WFR is no big deal during non-rush hour times. Once 540 is finished to 55 (end of the year) that will help the 1 and 55 congestion considerably.
Yes it should be a relatively quick ride to RTP. Not sure how much the tolls will be though, but hopefully the bill will be like the one I just got for 0.00 lol.
I would not want to commute from Holly Springs to North Raleigh (even with 540). Going to RTP might not be so bad but Holly Springs to North Raleigh would get old pretty fast.

It will, but at a cost. Make sure to factor in the cost of tolls that could potentially be applied to buying a home in a more convenient location. The house will likely appreciate in value; the tolls will be lost.
All the responses are irrelevant until you give the time of the commute. I have to drop my kids off at Lufkin (near 55 & 1) then go in to N Raleigh. If I drop them close to 7 (their school starts at 7:25) it is clear sailing. If they are high tailing it inside because the 7:20 bell has rung it will be stop and go the whole way.
Depends on where in Holly Springs you're living. If you're on the west side like me, you can take the back roads up to Apex and not have to sit in that mess that is 55.
Otherwise, until 540 is finished, you will have to sit in traffic from about Holly Springs Road up past downtown Apex (starts about 7 or so through 8:30 in the morning).
Holly Springs to RTP is about 45 to a hour depending on when you leave. It's pretty much a drive up 55 and it's slow going.
Not sure about North Raleigh. If the job is off RT1/440 might not be too bad.
