Recommendations? (tree pruning) (Durham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro: chapel, health, job)

I have a rather large (probably > 30 ft) tall pear tree that desperately needs some TLC. Would try to tackle the job myself but it would probably be easier to hire someone with the knowledge and tools. I don't want a guy that will come and cut the branches, but someone that knows which cuts to promote better/healthier growth.

Can anyone provide recommendations?
