Right now we have two AT&T iPhone 4 and one AT&T iPad. I could tether, but it is nice not having to run the battery down on two devices. Plus there's times when we're on vacation its nice to leave the phones behind, but still have Internet by the pool if you want it. ( we use the iPads in waterproof cases to read ebooks).

I think I am just going to get the Verizon one if only for diversity since everything else we have is AT&T.

The other nice thing is the 3G and 4g iPads have the gps. The wifi only don't.

I have an AT&T iPhone and get "good enough" coverage all over the area, but spotty when traveling. My good friend who I travel with quite a bit on motorcycle trips has a Verizon iPhone and gets much better coverage and data speeds almost everywhere. Others I know who travel even more say Verizon is best for data.

I plan to pick up an iPad soon, and still not sure whether I'll go with LTE or not. If I do, it will 100% for certain be Verizon. Verizons' iPad LTE plans ALLOW tethering at no extra cost. AT&T's do not.

So, I just saw that the Verizon New iPad 3 3rd generation 4g can use an AT&T sim for 3G service at least.

Just more options.

FYI, there were about 100 people in line at Best Buy Crossroads when my wife went by at 10:15 She was out by 11:00 and it seemed to be people were getting what they wanted. Not sure what happened after that but it seems like they have more available ahead the time so supply is at least close to demand.

Users should be aware that AT&T doesn't take too kindly to SIM-swapping, so if they find out you're using your iPhone micro-SIM in an iPad, they'll be a bit peeved.

Can anything be done about no Verizon signal in my father's neighborhood in Louisburg? To make a call you must drive about a 1/4 mile closer to town despite the entire area being within the official coverage area.

He lives on the northeast edge of Louisburg, and it seems that our street lies just outside of a "cell" of receivers. Should I try to complain? Do they care? Thx for any advice.

Ask for a drive test of your sector. Ask them to test the signal strength, background noise and interference.

You could also ask for a cell footprint, they may not give that to you...but you can ask....they will be more detailed than the sales charts.

Thanks for the info. I did end up getting a Verizon iPad. I will say, holy crap LTE is fast. I'm getting 4x faster Internet than crappy AT&T will give me over DSL.

I will say that it can pull down some data with the new higher res screen. I can already see Maps being a problem as it goes right to a much higher resolution from the start do you can see tiny detail even when not needed. I almost wish there was a way to turn that off when you didn't want it and have it download only the map level like the old iPhone as if you are plotting a route to drive you don't need to be sucking down super detailed maps of areas you are just driving by.

The Verizon coverage seems good, but not that fast. Been testing my 4g LTE phone and am getting 7-8m speeds..nowhere near the 10-12m I hear about in other places.
