Kitchen Table Conversations — Durham Public Schools
Durham residents: wanted to let you all know that DPS is holding Kitchen Table Conversations. There are 2 left this week. The district will be looking for feedback from parents and community members. The topic is magnet schools but I've been assured by 2 school board members and others at the central office that they want to hear from folks about neighborhood traditional schools as well.
In Oct the district was planning a huge overall of magnets. For instance it was going to limit DSA middle school's enrollment zone to South Durham and make Club Blvd and RN Harris feeder schools to DSA middle. North Durham was going to get a new North Durham Middle Arts School that was going to take the place of Chewning. Parents were outraged that the district was making these changes without community input. So DPS responded by slowing down and holding these KTCs. Please attend and have your voice heard. Some neighborhoods school may be affected as the school board is discussing rezoning too.
