I guess I skipped over that when reading before, but there are not many options for wood-fired pizza in the greater Durham area in general. Broad Street Cafe and Brixx in Chapel Hill or Brier Creek seem to be it.
There's also Pop's Restaurant that has wood-fired pizza. I haven't been myself but have heard it's very good. 411 West in Chapel Hill does wood-fired pizza but I've never ordered it. If you venture up to Harrison Ave. in Cary you can go to Bella Mia which does coal-fired pizza and is excellent as well.
Though I'm only a future resident, I've researched the topic and found this to be a wonderful option :: bella mia ::. Coal fired, but I am very familiar with wood fired neopolitan style pizzas, and Bella Mia is along those lines. About 13 miles from you...
just got back from New Haven CT and ate at Pepe's in NH's Little Italy, which I've seen on one of the cooking shows. 100 year old coal fired brick oven. best pizza I've ever had. in fact we ate in LI every night and I ate lunch one day, and there was a constant line in front of Pepe's
My favorite pizza in Durham (in order):
Pop's Backdoor
Broad Street Cafe
Vita (non-traditional)
The Pizzeria @ 604 West Morgan
