I think the Rule of Thumb for roads is $1million per lane per mile. So $2M does seem expensive, but the eminent domain costs could easily be $1M.

Why not take their time and pay cash? This country is going down the tubes because of credit. A bond is just a municipal credit card. The Town of Cary has a budget surplus from overcharging residents. They should pay as they go.

At least I don't see any indication that Holly Springs Rd will be destroyed (I mean widened). That's a relief. Although that project could have been approved in an earlier budget and I missed it.

From what I can tell, it's unfunded but planned. I would bet money that the entire length of Holly Springs Road will be widened into a four lane median divided road within the next 15 years. Same for Ten Ten between US1 and US401.

Agreed on Holly Springs Road, but I think development of 540 will supercede widening of 1010 to 401.
Investing in widening of 1010 will undercut the toll road too much since the two are fairly parallel.

Is Ten Ten a state road or local road? If it's a local road I doubt the towns care at all about the toll revenues since they don't see any.

1010 is a state road.
Widening it would encourage people to use it. while using funds that could build 540.

And much of the 1010 corridor passes through unincorporated Wake County.

Of course, Tryon Road was widened, and it parallels much of I40.

I figured it was a state road but wasn't sure. Seems like everything is a state road around here!

1010 is an old road, and a pretty neat afternoon drive to trace as far as possible.
I like Old Stage Road too.

NCDOT just widened NC55 and Davis Drive within the past 5 years, and Green Level Church and Yates Store are works in progress. All of these are 45-55mph roads that parallel the NC 147/NC 540 tollways that will be fully open by the end of the year.

Chances are the growth down there will be explosive over the next 2 decades. Bigger roads will be needed to handle this. The tollway alone won't do the job.
