Default Apex Questions

This past weekend when we were in the Raleigh area we checked out Apex. We really liked the feel of the area and it did not seem to far away from things.

I know that the school district is Wake County but do the kids go to schools in Apex or are they bussed somewhere else?

What subdivisions are there that are in the 250Kish range?

Thanks!
Desiree

In the mid-$200,000's, you have an absolute wealth of choices in Apex.
Walden Creek, Amherst, Sawyers Mill, Scott's Mill, Shepherds Vineyard, Surrey Meadows, Vintage Grove, Holly Brook, Greenbrier, Oak chase, Holly Brook, Whitehall Manor, Waterford Green, Brighton Woods, Kildaire Estates, Crockett's Ridge, Scot's Laurel, Charleston Village, Holland's Crossing are represented among Active Listings from $235,000---$260,000.
You are looking at most homes being up to 10 years old or less, with some new construction, some from the late '80's, and a few from the '70's.

As Apex is a sprawling town, kids go to several Wake County Schools.
Wake County Schools in Apex area include some fine schools.
County schools do not revolve around a town, and kids go to several different schools.

Here is the link to find school assignments by address:
Determine School by Student Address
I would not take the assignment as gospel, and would definitely suggest you talk to someone to confirm.

So kids in Apex don't go to school in Apex?

We are looking for a newer home less than 5 years old. What subdivisions are newer or have new construction?

Thanks!

You really have to get a map of Wake County and take a look at the areas of Apex, Cary and Holly Springs because they run into each other quite frequently.

For instance...I sold a house in Cotswold in Cary. It used to be Apex.

Further down TenTen, I sold a townhouse. On the way to the townhouse, you are in Cary but then you pass a sign that says "Welcome to Holly Springs" and then a mile down the road, the townhouse is in Apex!

ALL the schools in the area are Wake County Public Schools, so saying you live in Apex and your kids go to Cary Elementary may not be what you think.

Does any of THAT make sense?!!

My point is...don't think you HAVE to live in Apex if there is a new neighborhood a mile down the road that has the perfect house for you, just because it has a Cary address!

Vicki

exactly what vicki said! I used to live in the neighborhood that connects to cotswold (glenmitt stone) and we were apex, then cary. But while we had an apex address we paid taxes, had recycling and trash pick up from the town of cary, and the schools were cary schools............

People ask all of the time about finding zip codes for certain schools and it just doesn't really work that way in wake county. Parts of apex I am sure will go to apex schools, but there are other parts that are closer to holly springs, or cary and they will attend those schools.

You will have to practice due diligence and search for homes, then cross reference those addresses with the wake county schools assignment locator. Your real estate agent can send you listings that have specific schools listed, but, you still should double check! Some of the listings the schools may have changed, etc

Good luck!
Leigh

I hope that Vicki and Leigh helped clarify the school thing a little more.

Basically, there is no such thing as an "Apex school." There are a few Wake County schools that happen to have an Apex name.

As far as subdivisions offering homes less than 5 years old...
Whitehall Manor
Scots Laurel
Creekside Commons
Sawyers Mill
Newbury Park
Crocketts Ridge
Carriage Downs

Now, these are just culled from currently active MLS home listings, and a few of the listings are right at the built in 2002, 5 year mark. They may be in subdivisions that were built out over a few years.
Your agent can help you locate more homes and neighborhoods, and watch them for activity.

What are the choices like in the 150-200k range? (I'm not seriously expecting 150, but I'd be delighted to find out I was wrong.) We probably won't be able to swing 250k or thereabouts.

Also, what are they like in Cary, same price range?

LOL, from an extra sharp white cheddar guy... a rather pedestrian sort in the cheese circles...

Chuck,
If you find a $150,000 home, and they do pop up, it will be a fixer, for sure.
$200,000 judiciously spent will do you fairly well. In between is...well, in between.

A quick search shows 55 MLS listings of detached single family homes under $200000 in Cary and Apex.
Someone is living in most of them, i.e., they tend to be habitable...
