I sodded some Zenith last year in mid-April, watered religiously for a few weeks until it was rooted, and then made sure it got at least an inch a week between rain and irrigation. By mid-July, it was all dead.

I finally got around to over-seeding with a shade-tolerant fescue blend in March, and it's looking pretty good now. I'm hoping that it stays alive through the summer, but there's a good chance I'll be seeding again in October.

does anyone use bermuda grass there? it's the go to grass for phoenix summers. We seed around this time for it to start up, but you only need to seed it once. it grows back every year after that.

I would imagine if it can handle full sun here it would be able to handle full sun there.

After weighing Bermuda against Zoysia, we decided on Zoysia because there are many common varieties of Bermuda that did not sound desirable to us and we were fearful of getting the wrong kind. The price quote was the same for Zoysia, it stays green longer in the cooler weather, and because it too has low maintenance, we went with it.

Peperoberto, did you do the Zenith sod yourself? I would hope the company we are using is going to do a good job and ensure it will last beyond 3 months. (fingers crossed). I would love to hear from others on the Zenith.

Did it myself. Unless you're paying them a monthly fee to maintain it, they're just going to lay it down and leave. I've even heard stories of sod installers not even raking before they put the new sod down, which is a critical step to allow better contact between the roots and the soil underneath. Most companies don't even water it after they install it, so the whole paying someone $100/pallet to install sod is really just a giant waste of money (IMHO).

Unfotunately, I think sod is best laid in the Fall as well....

We used Green Level Landscapes in Apex for our zoysia sod installation and were very happy with them as well as their products.
