Hey everyone. My family and I are going to be visiting my FIL who lives in Holly Springs in June. As I have mentioned in a previous thread, we are looking at moving to the area. I have been reading tons on here and looking at rental homes in Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina areas. When we go down in June, I would like to get a real feel for the area. My FIL has only been down there for maybe a couple years, so I thought I would ask people who have been there longer. I would like to get a real feel for what the Raleigh area is like. See the good, the bad areas. Other than checking out the areas of the homes for rent I found, could you give me some spots as to what I should check out? Also, I have a child going into 3rd grade in Sept. If we were to move say the end of the summer, do you think it would be hard to get into a school? I'm asking because I read on here that there is a lottery type system for schools. TIA for the help!

Your child will get into a school; it just might not be one close to where you are living. There was just an article yesterday on how they're trying to make under-enrolled schools more attractive to parents.

I'd definitely visit a park or two in the area. We moved down less than a year ago and it seems like we spend a lot of time at the local parks and Pullen Park in Raleigh.

Definitely go to Pullen Park. American Tobacco Campus, take in a Durham Bulls game.

Thanks guys. My husband went down there in March with my 4yr old and he took her to Pullen Park. They both loved it and from the pics it looks very pretty.

I am not sure what you want or are looking for but there is a nice nature trail at the bottom of the hill on Holly Springs Road. You would cross Penny Road and go down the cross back hill. At the bottom of the hill are two small dirt parking lots. One is a Town water plant, the other the Nature Conservancy parking lot. Very rustic trail but it is close and maybe what you want to get back to nature on a spring morning.

I want to walk and drive around as much as Raleigh, Holly Springs areas as possible. I want to be able to get a good idea as to what its like to live in that area, seeing as we are looking to move there. We do love to go hiking, so we will try that trail, thanks.

Thank you.

My SO soon to be wife just suggested downtown Apex. A very nice quaint down town filled with people. A very short drive.
