It's just a bull poop charge not affecting insurance or license.

Just see the magistrate or DA showing insurance and NC license are in place and explain that she misunderstood the rules based on her discrepancy in moving dates.

Chances are good there won't be a big fine or maybe only court costs. Might even get dismissed.

They're going to tell you to go to the courthouse on her appointed date. They don't have the authority to dismiss anything once the ticket has been written and processed. (just imagine the accusations if they did!)

Everyone with tickets like this needs to plan to get there early to get in the line to talk to the DA who usually tosses this stuff out if you can prove that you got it taken care of (changed residency) and bring your papers with you.
It's a pain to the go to the courthouse for this kind of stuff, but they don't try to make it easy for you.

She could probably get out of it with no lawyer and no fees paid.

At 2 every afternoon, a line forms in a room in the courthouse on Fayetteville Street downtown. At 1:30 pm, go to the courthouse, go through security, and take an immediate left. There may be two law enforcement officers standing near the door.

You want the magistrates, not the courtroom.

Go through the door and veer right.

You'll find a line snaking around to 2 people at a big u-shaped desk. Wait your turn, explain your case to one of the two magistrates and hope for the best.

Be sure you bring all documentation that you possibly can. Make your case succinctly.

First -- call this number and ask what you can do: Criminal Public Information Department at 919-792-4300. Ask specifically about the days the magistrates are there. It may not be every day.

Good luck.
This is the best advice in this thread.
