According to the N&O, NC now joins the majority of states that have passed constitutional amendments banning gay marriage. Thirty-one states have done so.

Has there been any state that has had it on th eballot wher it didn't pass? Funny thng is, I bet if it was worded differently, or the opposite was on the ballot (a law legitimizing and legalizing civil unions) it would pass. I think some people just like to click yes/for.

It was stupid, unconstitutional and hateful when in my state enough folks were duped into voting away equal rights (as the courts correctly ruled) and it is stupid, unconstitutional and hateful when your state has done the same.

I thought I would want to visit the mountains and Asheville sometime but there is no way I would spend my money there now.

You used to be a just bit better than all your neighbors, what in the world happened?

This is an embarrassing night for NC. What a shame.

I'm always saddened when someone dismisses an entire state over a single vote. Sure, many of us don't agree with the outcome, but I don't understand dismissing an entire state over one vote, either.

How can you not question an entire state that votes for such an odious law by a 20% margin. Granted the two counties I spend most of my time in voted 70% against, but that goes to show just how ignorant and bigoted the rest of the state is. Alabama, here we come.

What we need is an amendment making all the financial business that tanked our economy illegal. But we get this diversion instead.

I respect the voting process, but I don't have to respect the voters or the end result.

Now that the results are in, it's time to close the thread.

I want to thank everyone for a [mostly] rational and [mostly] civil discussion. Y'all make me proud.

If you'd like to continue the discussion, feel free to head over to the thread on the General NC forum.
