If they honestly wanted to protect marriage they could make divorce illegal? This amendment is just a cheap political ploy.

Going to be casting my vote against either this weekend or on Tuesday. I don't want to say much more because I think I could easily get myself banned by speaking my mind on this. I would very quickly cross the line.

So can someone explain to me why someone with these political values would support a law that invites government to rule our personal life, and utilizes Gov't and the law to guide social values? Seems a bit contradictory to me...

Confused...
What you don't understand is most those who are against smaller, less intrusive government really are only against it when it pertains to laws that affect them.

One reason why the Libertarian Party will/has become the intellectual and political refuge for moderate and conservative gays who don't buy into the bankrupt ideals of either "party" of the ruling class.

It will pass, however it will be repealed within 10 years. No question about it.

For those voting yes, aren't you intelligent enough to realize that you're being lazy and inconsiderate of the 5% of us who are gay by dismissing our right to pursue love and happiness in our lives too?

It's like voting against providing left-handed scissors in a classroom because most of the pupils are right-handed.

Love and intimacy are as necessary as food, water and shelter. The longer this debate rages, the clearer it becomes who isn't getting any of the aforementioned requirements.
Repeal won't be very easy. The forces for repeal will need to get a 60% supermajority vote in both the house and the senate to put it back on the ballot. Unlikely to happen again, unless NC is the only state left in the union that outlaws gay marriage.

It will take a long time to wring the bigot out of the constitution once enshrined.

It would be nice if the Supreme Court just put this to rest for the entire country.

There are still a disturbing number of people in the south (heck, throughout the country) who still wish for interracial marriage to be illegal. Accepting people despite differences in skin color, culture, or sexual preference is simply too difficult. Scary. And yet they preach the love of Jesus Christ the loudest of all.

I'm still waiting to hear a rational argument for the amendment, but so far, no luck. All we've seen are bible quotes and "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve." So profound. Can anyone give a coherent reason for this to pass that doesn't boil down to "we find your lifestyle immoral and/or disgusting and though it doesn't affect us in any way, this is how we'll punish you for it..."? I won't hold my breath.
