You should check out Wake Forest as well. We moved here from Boston and have lived here for five years. We're actually building again in the same neighborhood. Heritage is a golf course neighborhood. Wake Forest has a historic downtown. Lots of folks from all over in the neighborhood.

if you're interested in learning more, let me know.

Default Hi there

My wife and I lived in Watertown, MA for 6 years and now reside in Connecticut. We were looking for a family oriented feel that's not just about soccer mom's and Honda Odyssey's. We do desire quality schools, but where could we find a decent school system and a house price within $200 to $250.

They go fast, but you can find that in Wake Forest.....my neighborhood for example has a variety of homes...from 180k (at the lowest) to 300k (at the highest)....but even teh FSBOs go pretty fast.

You will see some Honda Odysseys however...lol! But it is possible....you just have to keep your eyes open.

The desirable family areas in the Triangle that are not about Honda Odyssey's and soccer moms are going to be hard to find in your price range. While I agree that Wake Forest is charming, it is still filled with the two things that you asked for it not to have. A very small part of Wake Forest is the original town these days and the rest is your dreaded model. You might be able to find a "non soccer mom" atmosphere in some targeted old school suburban neighborhoods built in the 60's & 70's. While some of these hoods became more expensive recently (like North Hills), other neighborhoods exist between 440 and 540 in North Raleigh and older sections of Cary. You might also try SW Raleigh between NC State and Cary. I feel pretty confident in saying that all the new, outlying, "family priced", developments in the Triangle are going to be your dreaded soccer mom atmosphere.

BTW, I am not a realtor.

What is wrong with driving a honda odyssey and being a soccer mom? I grew up outside Boston- lived in the north shore. Previously worked for Fidelity- and I drive a white Honda odyssey and have 2 small children and another on the way...My husband works very hard for his company based out of Boston, and I work very hard at home raising 2 small children. There is nothing wrong with driving a minivan and having the luxury of staying home to raise your family. As parents you teach & show your children culture .. Just because you may fit a stereotype...its not always the case as I dislike soccer.

PS I too lived in Watertown once, and my husband is from CT

Check out Wake Forest. Older homes and new. Small town feel but it is growing. Yes there are plenty of us Yankees there too! Its in northern Wake County, schools are as good as any but thats a personal view.
