Man I miss Mr. Dunderbak's as well. That place was by far the best lunch food in Crabtree. My mom would often go there to buy stocking stuffers around Christmas time because it saved her a trip to A Southern Season for the German sweets we liked.

The sad thing was that the mall pushed them out. At least that's the rumor that was going around back when I worked in one of the stores that was in the food court. Crabtree and the owner of Mr. Dunderbak were fighting back and forth over rent for the space and finally the owner decided it wasn't worth fighting over anymore. A lot of people thought at the time Crabtree was hoping for something more upscale to move into that space, but then it ended up sitting empty for a long while before whatever it is now moved in there. I won't even eat at the new restaurant because it's not Mr. Dunkerbak's lol.

I was over in the area today and stopped into Gino's for a slice. I know how we love to beat this topic to death on city-data but this place is Legit. Felt like an old school Pizzeria like the ones I grew up with back at the Jersey shore. The red booths and decor felt natural and not "forced" right down to the TV playing softly behind the register where you order. Te pizza tasted really good - which of course is the most important. I think this may be my go to place when I am craving a slice.

Gino's is one of our three pizza spots...besides Tony's and the new Randy's on Lake Boone. The only improvement Gino's could make is that the place needs a good scrubbing and a fresh coat of paint. It was a little sticky feeling last time we went...wife don't like sticky

I remember going to Schiano's when it was at Crabtree. Nobody came close to their pizza. Maybe the next time I'm in Raleigh I'll stop at Gino's. Nothing is ever good as you remember it though...

Gino's is hands down our favorite pizza place. We used to live near the mall, but have been in Garner for over a year and STILL drive up there once a month for a special (2 slices and a drink for $5 even). SO GOOD!

Oh the name story... per the current owners, when they bought the place it was in the contract that they had to leave the name Schiano's for x amount of time, which was really confusing to patrons as there was another Schiano's in the area (owned by the original owners) so as soon as that time frame was up, they changed it to Gino's. Same food, same friendly staff, just a different name.
