Gypsy's Shiny Diner
1550 Buck Jones Rd
Cary, NC 27519
Not that anyone from City-Data would be mailing anything to the Shiny Diner based on this or any other thread anyway, but FWIW, the ZIP code is not 27519. Out of convention, the ZIP code of those businesses around South Hills, including Gypsy's, is 27606, a Raleigh ZIP code, despite the fact that they're clearly and definitely now within Cary. That's part of why some of the Raleigh/Cary confusion about the Shiny Diner controversy has persisted. Even if it were to be given a proper Cary ZIP code, it would be 27511, since that's the code for the adjacent areas of Cary. The next closest ZIP code is 27518, south of US 1, which includes Crossroads. 27519 is further away, in the west and northwest portions of Cary. Not as if it matters or anyone cares.

Ya I've seen it listed with three different zip codes in different publications including 27519. The only reason I mentioned it was because it was ironic that someone used no shiny diners as an example of how bland Cary is yet there is a place called shiny diner and it really is shiny. I wish I had a picture to post of it.

Definitely no comparison. Just more interested if Raleigh is closer to what we have now in Fairfax, County, suburb living, or is there a downtown area that would be considered something between Fairfax County and Philly.

Yes. There is a downtown in Raleigh and it is thriving. I have owned downtown since 1996 and it has rapidly changed, evolved and continues to do so. There is a REAL opportu ity to get involved in what's happening downtown and the shaping of its immediate and longer term future. There's very few place making opportunities like there is in downtown Raleigh.

I would say that Raleigh's downtown is a little like a spread out Bethesda, at least the downtown Bethesda I remember from the early 2000s. Bethesda then had more amenities, like movies and a Trader Joe's you could walk to (plus Metro), but this may give you some local comparison. And I agree that Raleigh's downtown is only getting better.

Right near downtown, no problem. Otherwise, the city is very spread out and suburban.

Have you thought about Richmond? From what I understand it's downtown area is very urban and gritty, but alot of upscale restaurants, etc. now, and there are some very nice suburbs on the west side as well. Not as much traffic, weather would be slightly different than Reston (less cold/snow).
