Default Is there a "What's Happening In the Community"-type of free newspaper/magazine?

A lot of cities have a FREE weekly newspaper/magazine that lists all the upcoming events, festivals, movies, etc. They are usually found at grocery stores, gyms, etc.

I haven't seen any publications of this type around RDU! Does one exist?

There is a "What's Up" mini- newspaper that is printed every Friday as an insert in the News and Observer. I usually keep this to know what is going on.

It depends on what you are looking for ...

The Independent Weekly is great if you are looking for more alternative activities (live local bands, art festivals, etc.) They do have other things in it as well, but I find it to be more "out there". Its focus is on Chapel Hill and Durham with some raleigh stuff mixed in.

The what's up section published in the newspaper has more "mainstream" things to do with the local bands stuff mixed in as well.

I have nothing against The Independent Weekly as it serves a great market, however, after I was out of college, married, and settled down I don't look at it anymore.

As I said before, it's all in what you are looking for!

I like both the What's Up and The Independent. We used to also have The Spectator, which merged with the Independent a few years back. I do miss some of the stuff like News of the Weird and The Straight Dope that used to run in one of those.

BTW, as the original post: RDU usually refers to the Airport. "The Triangle" is usually used to refer to the area.
