My family is going to be relocating to Cary, NC soon and we are going to be building a home there. We have to find temporary short term housing while our house is being built but I am having a hard time finding somewhere that will rent to us with our 3 dogs (non-aggressive).

Seems like all apartment communities have a 2 dog max policy. All MLS listings that I come across are 12 month lease agreements. Does anyone know where I can look to find a townhouse, house, or large ground floor apt for us and our dogs? Has anyone been through this before?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The short term might be as difficult to find as the 3 dogs. Put together, it is going to be very difficult. I would try to get a Realtor or management company to help.

I am eagar to see what you figure out. I may need a short term rental with my pets. I am selling and want to take my time finding my next house, so want to rent while I house hunt.

Board one dog, and keep two in the apartment. Or find a generous friend to keep one dog.

We found quite a few choices in the Brier creek area for rentals starting at three months. Also some in cary. We only considered pet friendly apartments - might have considered a house, but we couldn't find an affordable short term rental. (short term for us was 7-9 months!)

Two pet limits seems to be the standard. Size and aggressive breed limitations also showed up as restrictions in some complexes.

I'm afraid that GoldenAge may have the most viable, if unhappy, solution.

I have a friend who rented a trailer in Garner while his house was being built because they had more lenient pet policies than most apartments. Might be worth considering.

Good for you that Cary ended the 2 dog limit.

I found that looking on Craigslist for rentals was helpful. There are independent owners who are more flexible when considering pets-as opposed to management companies. We have cats and had a hard time, but found a person renting and they agreed to allow our cats. Just be careful-there are scammers on there asking you to send money claiming they are overseas on missions and other nonsense.

I found a place in Cary that accepted my very large dog and 2 cats on CraigsList. It was a year lease, however. I suppose that short term leases might be a bit more difficult to land with 3 dogs. Just call every possibility on CraigsList. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your advice, I'll definitely try Craigslist. Sounds like a good route to go!
