What are some good walking routes/locations around the Raleigh/Durham area?

I'm aware of the greenways...and I looked into Lake Crabtree but, unfortunately, there's no longer a loop there due to damage from a tropical storm.

Any others?

That is a great list, lamishra. I especially like Lake Johnson and The Company Mill Trail at Umstead.

Some others:

Bond Lake in Cary has a nice trail around the lake. Half or so is hiking thru the woods on a dirt trail.

Eno River SP in Durham has lots of trails.
I've never been to Duke Forest, but worth looking into.

American Tobacco Trail runs from near Apex to Durham (although you can't go all the way yet until a couple bridges get built).

The Apex Lake off Lake Pine has a nice greenway trail around it.

Lake Lynn in Raleigh is another.

I love lake Lynn. I lived in an apartment adjacent to the lake when I First moved to Raleigh and use to walk around it all the time. I know it is basically just a big stormwater rentetion pond, but the trees around it and nice walking path make it very scenic and enjoyable. You will see lots of joggers, bikers, and people walking their dogs. It is a great place to go for a walk.

Here are a few pics from 2 years ago when I lived next to Lake Lynn:

I second Lake Lynn, when I rented in Brier Creek it was a short drive to Lake Lynn, I found myself there almost everynight walking/jogging or running...I miss it...I even took Oliver (my dog) a few times for a walk there...nice walk, nice people there

Lake Lynn looks nice since I am looking for a paved path (forgot to mention that in my original post). Do you know the distance of Lake Lynn's path?

One of my favorite walks was in west Cary. The Cary Park subdivision has a 28 acre lake at the center with a paved walking trail around it. I believe that the distance around the lake is about 2 miles. There is a Cary greenway that starts south of Cary Park, near Green Level Church Rd, and I would park there to add another 2 miles to the route.

I did a search on Amazon for walking/hiking in the Triangle books. This one looked pretty good: Amazon.com: Walking Raleigh/Durham: Books: Rebecca C. Mann

I'm going to see if one of the libraries has it.

for southern wake county residents, i would like to add:

Bass Lake in Holly Springs has a loop around the lake but it's not complete just yet but will be soon I think.
Caroll Howard Johnson Educational Park in FV. This park has lots of wooded walking trails with foot bridges/small creeks. It's very nice (and cool with all the shade!).
