"Adopt a Highway" in Raleigh?
Hello Friends
Well, I know many of us are concerned about the litter we see in our surrounding neighborhoods. I have an email out to North Carolina's division of "Adopt a Highway" just to see what it involves.
I want to "adopt" a street - Millbrook - by our residence and I'm just not sure if involves more than I can handle.
Just wandering if anyone else out there has done this in the past?
Thanks

just about everywhere we have lived has had this program - it's wonderful - however, walking along a freeway, even with an orange vest - quite dangerous! My parents do this for the Lions club in northern minnesota - it's a great program.

Thanks for your response. I'm more into adopting a street. I see those crosses and memorial set up on highways and wander how many of those were people picking up litter . .oh my!

We have adopted a part of the road near carolina friends school in honor of my dad. The "stretch" we have is a mile, and they ask that you clean it 4 times a year. Because friends school is friends school, there are staff people that help periodically throughout the year. As a family, we go every thanksgiving to clean it up, and several other times during the year.
The main thing is to bring rubber gloves, and lots of trash bags. The more you do it the easier it is to do. I think it is something around 100 dollars a year. It will shock you the amount of trash people throw out, very irritating.
I am glad you are doing this!

This is inspiring! I think I will unoficially adopt the section of Dunn Road between Bedford and Falls River. I walk down that road a few times a week and am dissapointed at the amount of trash I have seen on the side of the road lately. It's only a small section of road, but it's a strat.
Good Idea!
