Some who move to our fine Southern city may be surprised that there is a very, very large population of non-white people, including blacks, Spanish speakers, Asians, and people from India, and many, many, many (perhaps most?) are middle-class or higher as far as income.

So it will be difficult for you to find an all-white neighborhood, and one must wonder, really, why one would want to.

I expected, when I moved here from the North, to find more racist people. Fortunately, I learned there were far more racist people up North. Racism is offensive, I think, to the majority of residents here. Please keep that in mind when hiring for your new store.

Well I'll reserve judgement. I've seen people of all races ask for a similar thing and usually without condemnation.

Anyway, you can segregate yourself to your heart's content using these maps which give pretty detailed demographic information: Mapping the 2010 U.S. Census - NYTimes.com

Because silence often implies consent/agreement. And because of this quote:

There's a difference between asking how you might find people of your ethnic minority or if you might be discriminated against, and asking how to avoid black people.

There are a couple of apartment complexes that are in biking distance to crabtree. I am guess you want a two bedroom. Two bedroom apartments are going to be hard to find for 700 dollars a month. There is not that much crime around crabtree. We welcome you on the move but leave that "racist" mind set at the place you are leaving.

Ok, I'll bite....
I have to tell you, that despite what you may have heard about the south, in my experience, the the northern cities & suburbs are much more segregated than what you will find in this area.
What that means is that Raleigh is a place where, for the most part, you will be able, if you are able, to put aside your preconceived notions about race, and live in a place where there are 'good' and 'bad' areas with all races and ethnicities in them. Sort of like the America you see on t.v. It's here.
You say you will be working at Crabtree? It is a mall where you will see every ethnicity of shopper in every type of store. We live together, shop together, eat together, (and at least for now) our kids go to school together. IF you are open to that, you will find it here.

No, you don't come off as sounding racist or snobbish...you come of as sounding ignorant.

FYI - Even in Cary... According to a Cary News analysis, Cary police received 11 percent more crime reports from apartment complexes in 2011 than the last four years’ average.
