Thanks LoopDeLoop! Totally cool with driving. It's quiet in the car lol

meh_whatever- sure did! I've been down twice and LOVED it. Planning to come down again at the end of the month. We really enjoyed the Garner/Clayton areas and the people we encountered were so friendly! The issue is trying to transfer within the Gov. there. We've both applied to lots of jobs and make several lists for interviews stating we're qualified but then eventually get the email notification that we're not local residents therefore, for that reason "only" we're ineligible. So, now the question becomes...do we want to keep the jobs we have, move to NC, and between flexible schedules and driving back- make that work until we can find gov employment there??? Big ? on that one...

We're moving from Southern Maryland about 30 minutes outside DC. Charles Co area. It's just not what it use to be and I want to move where my kids can grow up and potentially stay as adults, or come back to when they have kids. THAT...is not Charles Co anymore. DC is moving in!!!

If you do move here and long distance commute, I wouldn't buy a house. How old are your kids? Could they handle a move here then a possible move again if you're unable to secure employment closer to home?

Is your 8yo a boy or a girl? The 2s should be fine.

Boys at 8 seem more indifferent to moving around than girls. Or so I've observed.

Boys are, IMHO, far easier than girls. I love my youngest and only daughter...but, honestly? My boys have been a breeze to raise so far.

Mine are 22, 14, and 11. We've been searching off and on for another house here locally. My 14yo is headed to HS and simply doesn't care which one he winds up attending. My daughter is headed to middle and looks panicky every time I remind her that she may have to change schools.

That said? If you can manage rent here for awhile? Move down. Set a time limit for the long commute. Decide what to do if one of you finds work and the other is still searching. Plan it all out and if it's feasible? Come on down.

meh_whatever- I wouldn't doubt boys are easier in the long run. I just can't get mine to learn how to WALK. Everything is run here, jump on that, fly off this, throw that....lol But hey, if that's the only thing I can "complain" about...we're good!

I think that's what we'll end up doing, renting with a time frame and then take it from there.

Thanks for all the info!!!

Have you visited the Flowers Plantation subdivision in Clayton? That area is beautiful. The pool/spa area is very nice. The schools are great as well.

I have, yeah. I did like the Flowers area but the homes are on top of each other. And for a neighborhood that boasts being so friendly- both times we've been down there's NEVER anyone out. The only place that was crazy crowded was the pool. Are they adding another? For as many MORE homes as they are building...I think their Club might run out of room But yes, the area is beautiful. The schools look like hospitals!
