Hi,

Anyone has any input on the new charter school (Triangle Math and Science Academy Charter School) in Raleigh.

My daughters are both starting 6th grade there. We attended the informational meetings, have spoken to the administrators, and are pleased (thus far) with what the school will offer. Actually, they had me at math, science, technology, and free tutoring. We also visited and liked their sister school in Greensboro.

Is this another charter school owned by the Tony Soprano wannabe?

Actually this school's main web page contains two glaring errors:
  • Charter Schools are publicly funded private schools, they are not public schools. The difference is far more than semantics.
  • Also there is no IRS classification for a Non-Profit organization, the IRS does have a classification for Not For Profit organizations. A subtle but very real difference. Trust me, having thoroughly investigated founding a Charter School I can assure you the primary focus of the sponsoring organizations is to make money - regardless of the IRS definition for Not For Profit.

Its more that that which is why I said to research the owners, the teachers, where the teachers are employed from

Default Triangle Math and Science Academy Parents

Our child currently enrolled at TMSA and we would like to reach out other parents of TMSA kids (possibly to set up a Meetup event?). If you are a TMSA parent, please send me a direct message and introduce yourself.

We look forward to meeting you!

We just accepted admission this week (grades K and 2)! We are excited and nervous. Have you heard from any other parents? How old are your kids?

Does your child have to be a resident of Wake county to attend? Not 100% sure how charters determine their enrollment.

I've wondered about that as well. There's a charter in Durham I like but live in Wake.
